Forensic Evaluation
Forensic Evaluation is a interview and assessment process used with children who have made allegations of sexual abuse, physical abuse, neglect, or who have been witness to violent crime.
Forensic Evaluations can only be requested by members of law enforcement, child protective services (DHS), or members of the Court such as judges, attorneys, and/or the District Attorney's office.
Melissa R. Knight, LCSW is trained in the Forensic Evaluation method of the National Children's Advocacy Center in Huntsville, AL. She has been providing comprehensive Forensic Evaluations since 2004 in order to meet the ever increasing needs of the legal community in North Mississippi, Northwest Alabama, and Southwest Tennessee. She has been qualified as an Expert in Forensic Evaluation in the courts of Mississippi and Alabama.
Forensic Evaluations are child friendly, non-leading, and research based methods to assess the validity of abuse allegations, the mental health needs of the child and/or family, and what, if any, recommendations should be made in the case. The process of evaluation takes a minimum of 6 weeks with 1 session scheduled per week. Upon completion of the evaluation, a detailed report will be completed for the referring agency. Records of Forensic Evaluation are not released to any other party without an Order from the Court. This is to ensure and protect the privacy of the child and the integrity of the assessment.
Conscious Healing Therapies will provide recommendations to referring agencies and to the Court as well as attend judicial hearings as required. Fees for Forensic Evaluation are $100 per clinical hour and can be covered by insurance. Court attendance fees are $150 per hour. These fees are billable based on testimony and preparation time, as well as for any sessions scheduled that were canceled due to the request to attend Court proceedings. These fees are not payable by insurance.
